The first time I entered Doma it was as a boy. I fled the broken, simpering men of the Iriq and the clutching claws of the Borlaaq behind them. I was yet untrained, stupid enough to take any mercenary work that presented itself and gave me an opportunity to kill for coin and blissful, momentary relief. I was used and discarded just as surely as I was on the Steppe. My learned lessons were swift, brutal; I was as well, after a time.

The last time I visited the Doman coast it was under the letter of my contract. I was to safeguard my employer from harm and escort her through Yanxia on a supply train. It was the first time I performed protection duties as part of a personal entourage. I remember vividly the gunshot that threw her to the ground, and my most immediate reaction: I sought to find someone to blame. My failure was absolute, embarrassing, and enlightening.

This time I enter Doma to set an example. To learn, I am sure, but also to send a message. Miyasuke traveled alongside me to Kugane; as stiff and abrasive as she can manage to be - traits I have learned to expect from the people of Othard - she was pleasant enough for the trip. We get along marvelously when I am not currently rearranging her companion’s facial features, and she was gracious enough to avoid mentioning the reason for my pilgrimage. She is doing me a favor, and I am giving her an opportunity.

It took me a full day at the time to accept my misstep for what it was. Ashley will live, at least, though the precedent I set is worrying. Hardly a year ago I would have murdered him for his disrespect and found another line of work in another city. Now I find myself paying the Ruby Price with a Doman shrinemaiden for the opportunity to absolve my sins with community service. I am not sure yet whether I should be alarmed, proud, or fucking disgusted. There’s time enough to feel all of the above, I suppose.

Miyasuke left me under the supervision of one of her “sisters.” A volunteer, apparently. Judging by the atmosphere of quiet professionalism and respect that she commands when she enters a tent or a smokehouse or the shoddy lean-to that serves as my quarters until I can find some proper canvas, she is one of the elder shrinemaidens. She directs me to lay bricks, and I make trips from the oven to the walls from dawn to dusk. She tells me to gather debris from the impact site, and I work my way through the shattered foundations and scraps of Garlean shrapnel with a chain fall and a heavy wagon. When the day’s work is complete, she wanders through the fire pits where the other laborers - men and women - gather to eat, and laugh, and share stories. She leaves them to find me in my shelter, carving wood and tanning leather and shaping bamboo to try and make my lean-to a little less fucking pathetic. She tells me to meditate and consider my accomplishments. She is courteous enough to avoid telling me to thank the kami, but this is still the task that I dread the most.

Not once have I been directed to kill somebody. I have not been told to torture a man, or slaughter a village, or hide a body beneath the mortar. Instead I am told to build, to meditate, and to sleep.

These things are difficult.

Happy Pride Month, everyone.

I wanted to take the opportunity to clear the air a bit on a couple of things about myself and… well, come out. Definitely here, where my friends are, as opposed to any other platform. First of all, as most of you who are close to me know, I am bisexual. I’ve never made a formal announcement before, so hey, I’d like to seize the day and say so.

Second of all: I’ve been struggling OOC for some time concerning my gender identity and attempting to work past a lot of the thoughts and behaviors impressed upon me from my younger years. I am still figuring things out, and I am trying to learn as fast as I can so that I can be less afraid to explore and affirm who I am, but here’s what I know: I am a trans woman.

Not a lot is going to change, as far as most of you know me. My name won’t be different (I think Kala shared the other day, turns out ‘Talon’ is a gender-neutral name. Roundabout thanks, mom). My preferences and hobbies aren’t shifting up. I’m just living in a place where I feel safe enough – and comfortable enough with myself – to face myself and embrace it. Thanks for that goes first to Kala for being such an incredible, supportive partner. They’ve helped teach me about things I was ignorant of, and they helped me through my thoughts and feelings the first time I gave voice to this and ever since. My friends, both online and off, have also been a huge source of support and help over the past few years. I know this news might blindside some of you, but rest assured that I would never have felt comfortable considering it without your help.

I’d appreciate it if everyone could respect my decision to announce this and respect me, personally. It would mean a lot to me if you could refer to me as she/they; either is honestly just fine. If you have any questions or you’re unsure of something, please feel free to ask me.

Quick to call names? That’s very unthoughtful. The terms may be disgusting to you, but I know plently of roleplayers that use them. Hell, some of them are trans. So just let people roleplay what they want without trying to govern them.

i’ve met zero trans people that are comfortable with those terms and dozens of trans people who find them uncomfortable, dehumanizing, and objectifying, so you go ahead and continue to do whatever you want, but now everyone knows you’re a transphobic creep so enjoy

Trans lady here, can confirm that seeing any of the terms mentioned above makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon.

Frankly seeing somebody use it makes me feel like they only view people like me as a fetish. Like, if you’re not going to dignify the reality of what the characters are and invent a million shitty terms that equate trans women to men just so you can avoid admitting that the object of your sexual desire is a trans woman… like, what else am I supposed to take from that.

Like you reduce these characters from being trans women to being a term used only in fetish material, and always with that connotation of ‘partway between a woman and a man’. From being people to fetishes. Honestly, it creeps me out and makes me really uncomfortable.

If anyone who sees this uses these terms… I can only request that you stop, I guess. It’s shitty.

Good People of Ul’dah and Eorzea at large! Turn your attention back towards the sands, The Proving Grounds, a festival of merriment and bloodshed for your viewing pleasure! This week we have a stable of young, old, and either way talented individuals and former champions from various combative events set to enter the Arena and bleed out across the floor, just for you! And yours! and your parents! and your parent’s parents! Kids too! Round one has the man who used his destructive force of fist during the last games to carry himself all the way into the final round, only to be stopped short of being crowned the victor! Wyra’to Coeurlkin, taking on massive Burkegan Iriq and his terrifying greataxe. Will the Coeurl tear through the Lizard and all else once more, or will it be another stunning upset for the cat? Round two has returning victor of a Proving Grounds past, C’xhori Fisher, returning after a long hiatus to once more wreak havoc with his deadly halberd, last seen when he’d used it to pierce through the chest of his last opponent, and to cut the thick neck of and remove the head of a beast so horrid it made folk to question the last Gamemaster’s Sanity! Set to take on newcomer, Shin’to Koto. Here’s routing for the underdog! Round three will be a real treat, starring a woman whose record of victory coming in to the grounds for the first time is something to be admired! Bremwyda Abylnpfefwyd, a victor of the Combat Fields who in her first night at the Bloodshore made her way to the final fight! Taking on veteran to the Proving Grounds, Gaspard Vairemont, a man to match the Seawolf’s monstrous size and strength, blow for blow, a real spectacle for both sets of their adoring fans! Finally, in the final round, yet another newcomer, Cyn Romanace joins us with her skill in swordplay and the rapier, with a mouth that is set to ignite the rage of a good few fighters with her words, taking on returning Shimomi Maeda, a woman whose matches at the Proving Grounds last week sparked small controversy amongst the masses over the Gamemaster’s questionable motives, having chosen not to end her fight when she called out to yield. Has Maeda recovered from her horrid injuries? Will she be able to compete against her junior? Will she once more prove a pushover?
